Those renderings are insane!
As for plastic shopping bags, I almost always bring a large duffel bag into the store with me. I give it to the sacker to use or more often than not, sack my own groceries since the 14-year-olds don't seem to comprehend the fact that bananas, bread and eggs go in AFTER the huge jug of milk.
Whatever doesn't fit in the duffel gets wheeled out to my bike and tossed into the panniers or strapped onto the rack.
